I'm a photographer who travels via Uber to shoots, as far as I was aware this was an allowable expense. Am I correct?

Yes, it’s an allowable expense. Provided it’s not ordinary commuting, which this doesn’t sounds like, travelling expenses are allowable against your business profits.
We have heard some people suggest that an Uber or a taxi is “unreasonable” of there’s public transport available, but this simply isn’t true for tax purposes.
