Your income tax depends on where your main home is located. Your main home is usually where you live and spend most of your time, however, this is not always the case, particularly if you live away from home for work. In that case, your main home is considered to be where:
- most of your possessions are
- your family lives, if you’re married or in a civil partnership
- you’re registered for things like your bank account, GP or car insurance
- you’re a member of clubs or societies
Generally speaking, you’re taxed where you live. So in this case, you’ll pay tax at the Scottish rates. Sorry.
